the Grace note

For me, Grace Kelly is the most beautiful woman that ever graced the Hollywood screen. She is the epitome of sophistication, beauty, femininity, elegance, and basically every spectacular word to describe a woman.
I remember sitting in class watching Rear Window and being absolutely entranced by her presence.
I then remember the famed professor Drew Casper talking about Grace Kelly's entrance. He walked from side to side of the theater pretending to turn on lights.

However, Grace Kelly wasn't actually this amazingly pristine woman that Hitchcock imagined her to be.
Instead, she slept with most (if not all) of her male co-stars and used her femininity to attract any and all male attention. Some call her a slut, others applaud her feminist behavior, but I think she was just another heartbroken woman.

This past week/weekend, all the movie bloggers were talking about this upcoming Grace Kelly biopic and throwing out potential names. Basically, every single blonde actress' name is getting thrown out there. Carefully considering age, physicality, and actually talent my vote is for January Jones or Sienna Miller.

To be honest, I would love if they picked a complete unknown for this part. Casting any female actress with a strong star persona could damage the audience's perception of Grace Kelly the  movie. The name Grace Kelly draws in so much interest on its own that producers don't need a big star to sell the film.

I'm already excited to see the film.

Happy Halloween!

I don't know about you, but I love Halloween. People are dressed up in extraordinary thing and Halloween always seems to bring around cold weather in Los Angeles. The marked down halloween candy doesn't hurt either! Unfortunately work calls so I'll be work work working this glorious holiday!

As a very last minute costume a couple years ago, I decided to dress up like Christmas. From bright red shoes to a star at the top of my hat. Put this costume together in 30 mintes and it ended up being my favorite costume to date.

Happy Halloween!

friday Giggles.

The Lorax trailer! This was my favorite Dr. Seuss book growing up and I'm so excited that Chris Renaud was attached to this film (dir of Despicable Me). I love love love trees and I'm not a tree-hugger or an environmentalist but this book definitely started my weird obsession. How can you not to smile while watching this trailer!

The Lorax hits theaters on March 12, 2012

Have a very happy Halloween weekend y'all!

Who needs sleep when you can FLY?

The weather outside is doing wonderful but confusing things. One day, there's rain and the next there's sun! My desire to stay inside with a hot cup of cocoa is overwhelming and I am tempted to call in sick. But no! I will don a terribly unfashionable outfit and brave the weird weather while I dream of floating on a cloud...

A Wednesday WHY?

I have this weird love for trees. I love when the leaves turn colors, love when they're bare, and I love when they're full and leafy. However, I know to never crawl inside of a tree.

I woke up to this morning to another news story of a man getting stuck in a tree..

He looks distressed and in pain so I must ask, "WHY?!" The police and fire departments have no idea why he was in the tree or how long he was sitting there. Please... no matter how tempting, do not crawl inside a tree!

The article states, "The man was not injured, but the tree suffered a few cuts."

poor poor tree.

This gloomy weather we're having makes me so happy. It's finally time to pull out my winter brights!

running away

This past weekend I decided to run away and escape from the heaviness that is life and really figure out what I want right now. I'm so obsessed with the future and the life ahead that I overlook what's going on right now in the everyday. the every moment. the every breathe. So, I stopped being all talk and finally ran away to norcal. Not too far (only 6 hours by car) but it was worth every tired minute. Having a good road trip companion is key. Good conversation, silly singing, dizzy dancing, and the open road...
ahhh the good life

Jacobz brew from Philz. Dark roast with rich chocolate undertones. sinful

bows and crows

A co-worker told me I had an extremely interesting sense of style. He said that I dress like a 6 year old girl and a 60 year old man at the same time. I never believed the 60 year old man bit until I saw an old man at in-&-out wearing the same shoes as me.

in the details

My bag needed a little oomph so I tied in some matching ribbon but that wasn't enough! Quickly added a Forever 21 satin pink hair pin and that gave my bag a brand new look! I love how the smallest changes can make all the difference.
Savor the small y'all!

To Own or To Question? Boots

My style philosophy is very similar to life philosophy. Don't be afraid to try... at least once. I am not a brave person. In fact, I have too many all consuming, terrifying fears of irrational things such as birds, driving, rolling phone calls, and the like. But I will not let these fears dictate who I am and what I do. I don't think we should allow fear and judgement rule our lives. Just like we shouldn't let the fear of extreme clothing rule our lives. Embrace your individuality! And embrace these boots!

Love these printed Thakoon ankle boots! The African inspired paisley and the buckle make these shoe absolute lust worthy perfection. Now if we could do something about that price tag, these lovelies would be in my closet. Available at Net-a-porter for a mere $1,055

These boots from Acne make my inner geek very happy. They are bowling shoes meet oxfords meet horsey, meet 1930s gangster, meet weird, meet me.

Blinding gold? Cowboy boots? Marc by Marc Jacobs? You can get all of that for $250. I picture a very gray outfit for these boots... or a cardinal & gold outfit for a USC football party! (fight on)

These Rick Owen boots at Barneys makes me giggle and reminds me of Alien Vs. Predator. You better believe that the Alien Queen only deserves the best. Not only do these boots have disks flying out of the ankles, but they are PULL-ON Over-the-knee boots with an intense heel. I understand that designers don't always design for the average human being, but are they designing for humans at all?

Looky Linky Lovey

Love this cool, badass, yet totally chic look from The Sartorialist

Being the SoCali girl that I am, I don't wear socks for the majority of the year and I normally hate wearing whole-foot encompassing shoes. I enjoy walking barefoot through the grass, the beachy sands, or wherever I may be. When I saw these socks at Banana Republic the other day, I knew I had to own them. They must be part of my rare collection of socks so I can sneak them under my knee high boots or wear them slouchy with sneakers. These softer than snuggles over-the-knee socks give glittery allure to any fall outfit.

Loved this article about the eyebrow grooming habits of the U.S. Troops. No matter where you are or who you are, you just want to feel beautiful. Have at it boys! Groom away!

The Goods: Emily Cho

Like any girl, I love bags. However, I have these tiny shoulders so purses and the like don't really stay on my body. I even find that cross-bodies slip off my person at times. So I have a nice collection of clutches and these bags from Emily Cho are definitely on my Christmas wishlist (I start early).

Emily Cho is the beautiful love child from Emily Gellis and SJ Cho. The two come from such different backgrounds but they were able to turn their differences into something that is creatively wonderful.

Bags are for purchase here or here!

Chelsea Settles!

The first show that I worked on premiered last night. Chelsea is an amazingly strong woman and she has such a great heart. I want to see her win in life and find happiness. There are few people on reality television that audiences root for and Chelsea is definitely someone that needs to win in life. Even though I'm not morbidly obese and I'm from Los Angeles, I found myself relating to Chelsea and her struggle to find herself and to love herself. This show is more about losing weight and trying to fit into the fashion industry. The show is about self discovery and self love. How do you love yourself when the world around you tells you that you shouldn't?

Fashion is an industry for the skinny and beautiful (or so it seems) and I hope that Chelsea will defy all odds. Get ready world... Chelsea is here and she's kicking ass!

The Ides... meh?

What a disappointment. I cannot watch another dark (literally could not see a thing!) George Clooney flick. This film is a Star Vehicle--moved only because of the names associated with the films. Guiltily, I bought into that. How can a film with George Clooney, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, and Marisa Tomei possibly be bad? Well, this film was adapted from a play and the writers did not develop the screenplay to include the ticks and nuances that film picks up. Gosling is supposed to play a character that is wide-eyed about politics and believes in good. Why not muss him up a little bit? Make his hair not perfectly coiffed, his posture not so confident, fingers not perfectly groomed. I wish he delved further into his character and got into the psyche of the man he's suposed to portray especially because Director Clooney is obsessed with the extreme close up.

Also, this film is very oddly lit. The film should have opened with bright lights, glowy and soft focus to make politics appear more romantic and reflect the wide-eyed emotion that Gosling has towards politics. However, the film starts off dark and half-lit and remains dark and poorly lit throughout the entire movie. There are some parts of the film that are so dark that I couldn't see the action, I couldn't see the tension, anxiety, anguish, torment, conflict...ANYTHING! Why didn't we see Gosling throwing down in a blaze of glory?! There was too much going on in the film and director Clooney needed to pull back and learn the art of subtlety. The only good thing about this film is the style and fashions. The men and (Evan Rachel Wood) are impeccably dressed and coiffed throughout.

This scene with Gosling on the phone was supposed to be an extremely tense and conflict-building-sequence... but all I thought was, "Hot damn, those gloves are nice!" Not exactly what you want to be thinking about the humble, good-natured politician.

Filmmakers and actors everywhere.. please trust your audience. We're not stupid. You do not need to club us over the head with your message with fancy lighting tricks and excessively loud sound design. One of my instructors told me that good film editing is like a ninja. You should never notice it's presence. Well filmmakers, good filmmakers are like ninjas. We should never notice your presence.
